Welcome to M´hamid El Ghizlane! The Gateway to the Sahara!
M’Hamid El Ghizlane is a small desert village in southern Morocco, located in the Draa Valley. Often referred to as the "Gateway to the Sahara," it is the last village before the vast, open dunes of the Moroccan desert. Unlike the more famous Merzouga, M’Hamid remains peaceful, remote, and untouched, offering a truly authentic desert experience.
Historically, M’Hamid was an important stop for ancient caravan routes that traveled across the Sahara, linking Morocco with Timbuktu and beyond. Today, it still holds onto its nomadic traditions, with Berber and Arab tribes maintaining their deep connection to the desert.
✔ True Sahara Experience – Unlike more touristy desert areas, M’Hamid offers an authentic, unspoiled desert adventure.
✔ Erg Chigaga Dunes – Just beyond M’Hamid, these towering golden dunes (some up to 300m high!) rival those of Merzouga but with fewer crowds.
✔ Nomadic Culture – Experience the hospitality of the desert people, traditional Gnawa music, and tea ceremonies under the stars.
✔ Stunning Landscapes – Endless dunes, oases, rocky plateaus, and dry riverbeds create a surreal and ever-changing environment.
✔ Camel Treks Expeditions – Whether by camel or on foot, exploring the Sahara from M’Hamid is an unforgettable journey.
-
The village itself is quiet and laid-back, with mud-brick houses and a few small cafés where travelers can rest before heading deeper into the desert.
-
The Festival International des Nomades is held here every year, celebrating nomadic traditions, music, and arts.
-
It’s the perfect place to disconnect from modern life, enjoy the silence of the desert, and witness breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over the dunes.
Let´s discover the Moroccan Sahara together.
Day 1:
Welcome to Morocco! To be specific, our journey will start in Marrakesh. From here we will have a group transportation that will pick you up and bring you to Mhamid el Ghizane. Our trip starts in the morning, with a lunch break in Kasbah Air Ben Haddou.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the best-preserved and most iconic examples of traditional Moroccan earthen architecture.
Aït Ben Haddou is famous for its stunning kasbahs—traditional fortified houses made of mud bricks and clay. These structures have intricate geometric patterns, decorative carvings, and unique Berber influences that reflect Morocco’s diverse artistic history. The adobe walls, narrow alleyways, and ancient watchtowers transport visitors back in time, making it a paradise for photographers and art lovers, as well for Hollywood.
We will arrive the Mhamid Desert before Sunset, being welcomed by traditional music and tea, and enjoy a delicious meal for dinner.

Day 2:
We will start our day with sunrise.
We will enjoy an energizing yoga class together to prepare for our first day walk through the Sahara.
After Yoga, we will nourish our body with a rich breakfast.
Now it's time to head out to the Sahara, stopping for lunch at Ras Nekhale and to relax during the midday sun.
After a long day of walking we will set up our camp in the middle of Dune Douib (5hours 30 minute walk in total). After a 60 minute Yin yoga class you will get the chance to watch the sunset.
Now it's time to enjoy our dinner together, laugh and dance, sing, or just sit together quietly soak in the complete stillness of the desert.
Day 3:
Good Morning! After Yoga and breakfast, we will pack up our camp, and go search for the Camels, that enjoyed their free time.
Walking through different vegetations, we will make our way passing dunes and Rocula fields. We will set up our picknick during noon at Wad Naam and arrive at the night near Dunes Erg Bertham.
We will set up our camp here and enjoy another relaxing yoga class.

Day 4:
On our 3rd Day of Trekking we will start the day with yoga and breakfast. We will pack up our camp and leave Bertham off to Mezouaria, where we will have our last stop before heading back to our home at Mhamid. After a well deserved meal in the evening we get to enjoy the sunset over Mhamid, the beautiful night sky and one more night in our desert camp
Day 5:
After Breakfast and one last yoga session, we head back to Morocco, with a stop again to have some lunch.
We arrive in Marrakesh before sunset. We say our goodbyes and you are more then welcome to enjoy the rich live of Marrakesh for as long as your time allows.
